Fundraising or fund-raising is the process of seeking and gathering voluntary financial contributions by engaging individuals, businesses, charitable foundations, or governmental agencies. We were assigned a task by Amal Academy to collect funds for edhi foundation. As we all aware of edhi foundation, and we all look up to Abdul Sitaar Edhi how he started his foundation and work hard day and night to help the needy, poor, widows and orphans. We all wanted to contribute in this noble cause and Amal organization gave us two weeks to collect funds.

We started fund raising campaign online as a group, we reached out to our contacts through WhatsApp and uploaded the WhatsApp status if anyone wants to help us in this noble deed. We were really disappointed with the fact that people just ignored our messages and statuses, only a single person gave me the donation online. Then we changed our strategy, we decided to raise funds individually, one of our group members Aimen Bukhari, she belongs to Jehlum and it was very difficult to her to raise funds. It was difficult collecting funds for a social cause especially when your own family finds a girl collecting funds questionable and offending. Also, with the lockdown and her being back in home, she could not really approach anyone out of her personal circle. She faced backlash from her own family and she overcame it by involving them within the activity. She made them understand that regardless of gender, it’s time that everyone become active regarding problems in the society. She accepted the failure that people won’t always cooperate even if it’s for a good cause. Selfish needs come first to almost everyone and philanthropy comes afterwards. Wahab and I went extra mile and collected funds by going door to door in our areas. It was heart breaking when people refused to donate even 10 rupees for such activity but Our beloved edhi saab has made his name so known for helping poor, so most of the people were aware of edhi foundation and gave us funds. It kept us motivated and we kept this thing in our mind even a little amount of money can make a difference and if people are willing to give 10 rupees, we didn’t refuse. As Edhi saab said, even it was little money but it was something. For most of us, it was new experience we never took part in fundraising activities and we all have learnt one thing, we need to think of others and should at least try to work for humanity. Some of people were reluctant to give funds due to past experiences with fraudulent non- governments organisations,so to convinced them and assure them we showed them the assurance letter which was given to us from Amal, we did follow all the four principles of amal which kept us going and we successfully collected funds as much as we can. The challenges for fundraising are more complex than we give it credit for. It cannot be pinned down into one particular fundraising challenge, but a multitude of factors that work together to impede your success.
